Pernah merasa diri Anda tersisihkan karena sahabat mulai menjalin cinta? Jangan khawatir, Anda mungkin bukan satu-satunya orang yang merasa demikian. Sebab, menurut ilmuwan di Oxford University, setiap kali mulai menjalin cinta, kita ‘membuang’ dua teman terdekat.

Penelitian menunjukkan, sebagian besar dari kita tidak memiliki cukup waktu untuk sebuah persahabatan intim dengan lebih dari empat atau lima orang. Dan, cinta dari pasangan baru membuat dua teman terdekat tersingkir, dan ia masuk ke lingkaran dalam perasaan Anda. 

“Jika Anda menjalani hubungan romantis, sebenarnya sama dengan ‘biaya’ dua teman dekat. Daripada memiliki lima yang biasa saja, mereka lebih ingin memiliki empat teman dekat. Dan mengingat bahwa salah seorang dari mereka adalah orang-orang baru yang datang ke dalam kehidupan Anda, berarti Anda harus ‘menyingkirkan’ dua orang lain,” kata Profesor Robin Dunbar, ahli biologi evolusi, seperti dikutip dari Daily Mail.

Menurut penelitian, pria cenderung memiliki empat atau lima teman dekat, sedangkan wanita lima atau enam. Namun, pria lebih mudah melepaskan teman-temannya saat mulai berhubungan romantis, hal itu jika dibandingkan dengan wanita, hal ini diketahui dari penelitian pada pria dan wanita yang berusia 18 hingga 60.

Perhatian sepenuhnya akan berfokus pada pasangan, dan Anda tidak lagi menganggap sahabat atau orang lain yang pernah menjalin hubungan dekat. Menurut profesor Dunbar bukan hanya pasangan yang bisa menjauhkan Anda dari sahabat. Memiliki anak atau anjing juga menimbulkan efek yang sama.

Sulitnya Memilih

Saat kita diperhadapkan dengan apa yang namanya pilihan, maka sebagai konsekuensi kita harus juga menentukan apa yang menjadi pilihan. Sebuah pilihan selalu datang bersama dengan kesempatan untuk memilih. Sekalipun itu adalah pilihan yang sangat sulit, tetap saja dibarengi dengan sebuah kesempatan untuk memilih.

Manusia seringkali diperhadapkan dengan pilihan. Mulai dari pilihan-pilihan yang paling sederhana sampai pada pilihan-pilihan sulit yang membutuhkan waktu dan pertimbangan dalam menentukan sebuah pilihan. Berhubungan dengan pilihan, manusia juga sering menjawab pilihan-pilihan mereka dengan berbagai cara. Contohnya cara penentuan pilihan yang tanpa berpikir panjang atau memilih tanpa dasar memiliki dasar pemikiran yang kuat. Meskipun orang sering berkata bahwa mereka tidak memilih tetapi pada dasarnya mereka sendiri sudah menentukan pilihan, yakni sebuah pilihan yang berdasar atas keinginan mereka sendiri.

Mari kita mulai dengan berbicara mengenai pilihan. Oleh karena setiap orang berhak menentukan pilihan maka sudah menjadi haknya pula untuk memberikan pilihan-pilihan. Dalam hidupnya manusia selalu bergelut dengan permasalahan. Guna menyikapinya, maka munculah pilihan-pilihan dalam benak manusia itu sendiri. Ide atas pilihan-pilihan ini berdasar atas keinginan untuk pemuasan diri, keamanan, kenyamanan, penyelesaian, dan lain sebagainya. Ide atas pilihan manusia bahkan seringkali didasari atas sifat egois-individualis dari manusia itu sendiri. Tetapi, hal itu dirasa bukanlah merupakan sesuatu yang salah, karna itu adalah hak dari setiap orang. Hal yang seharusnya bagi kita manusia dalam membuat pilihan-pilihan adalah pertimbangan. Pertimbangan terhadap masalah, diikuti dengan penentuan pilihan-pilihan, apabila dilakukan dengan perenungan dan pemikiran yang mendalam dan menyeluruh, akan membawa manusia kepada suatu penentuan yang baik dan benar.

Hal yang sama juga berlaku untuk penentuan pilihan sebagai respons terhadap adanya pilihan-pilihan. Ketika diperhadapkan dengan banyaknya pilihan di depan kita, maka pemikiran dan pertimbangan yang tepat menjadi pilihan yang terbaik bagi kita. Karena setiap pertimbangan atau pemikiran akan didasari dengan pengertian yang menyeluruh terhadap setiap pilihan yang ada, dan diputusan dengan akal sehat.

Pilihan hidup, sesuatu yang sangat relatif bagi setiap orang. Hal ini terindikasi lewat setiap pilihan yang dibuat dan diambil oleh manusia. Ada yang memilih untuk dirinya sendiri, juga ada yang memilih untuk orang lain. Ada yang memilih demi kesenangan ada juga pilihan yang mengorbankan. Kesemuanya itu sering dianggap sebagai pilihan terbaik. Oleh karena itu, pilihan yang baik dan benar haruslah memiliki dasar. Apakah yang seharusnya menjadi dasar? Manusia adalah mahluk yang diberi akal budi dan kebijaksanaan oleh Sang Pencipta. Dengan demikian sebagai mahluk yang memiliki intelektualitas (dengan adanya akal budi), patutlah kita menggunakan otak untuk membuat dan menentukan pilihan. Bagaimana menggunakannya? Yaitu dengan pemahaman, pertimbangan, analisis, perenungan, maupun pemikiran mendalam atas setiap masalah. Adanya hal-hal di atas akan membuat pilihan dan penentuannya menjadi baik dan benar, meskipun akan memberikan pilihan yang mungkin kurang berkenan atau tidak memuasakan bagi diri sendiri maupun orang lain.

Pilihan dalam cinta. Banyak orang berpendapat bahwa cinta itu sangat berperasaan. Hal demikian membuat pilihan atas cinta senantiasa didominasi oleh perasaan. Tetapi pernahkah kita berpikir untuk meletakkan dasar pilihan-pilihan mengenai cinta di atas sebuah pemahaman, pertimbangan, analisis, perenungan, atau pemikiran yang mendalam? Menggunakan perasaan adalah hal yang wajar dan akan cukup membantu penentuan pilihan, tetapi keputusan akan lebih bermakna dan baik apabila dibarengi dengan pemikiran. Hati dan otak bekerja bersama untuk menciptakan pilihan-pilihan dan juga bekerja dalam pengambilan keputusan. Maka, apabila dalam suatu permasalahan cinta kita diperhadapkan dalam sebuah dilema yang mengharuskan kita membuat pilihan-pilihan yang cukup sulit, pemahaman dan pertimbangan akan memberikan pengertian melampaui perasaan kita untuk menentukan yang baik dan benar bagi kehidupan kita. Itulah hal terindah yang diberikan Sang Pencipta bagi kita manusia untuk mempergunakan pikiran dan perasaan kita sebagai penentu pilihan dalam hidup.

Demikianlah kita manusia yang telah diberi akal budi dan kebijaksanaan dapat mempergunakan intelektualitas sebagai dasar berpikir dan bahan pertimbangan dalam menentukan pilihan. Atas segala hak kita membuat dan menentukan pilihan, mari kita aplikasikan akal budi dan kebijaksanaan, dan niscahya apa yang kita buat dan ambil sebagai pilihan akan baik dan benar.
